Privacy Policy

Effective date: December 25, 2025

App name: Overhead
Developer: Nicolas Dupont ("we," "us")
Contact: contact form

The short version

Overhead needs camera and location access to show aircraft details in AR. Your spotting stats sync through iCloud/CloudKit under your Apple ID. We collect a small amount of technical data to run the service and respond to you when you contact us. We do not sell your personal data.

What we collect

A. Permissions (on your device)

  • Camera access: used to display the AR view. We do not record or upload your camera feed.
  • Location access (latitude/longitude): used to find aircraft near you and show them on screen.

B. Data you create

  • Spotted aircraft stats (aircraft, airlines, airports, countries, counts): stored and synced via Apple iCloud CloudKit associated with your Apple ID.

C. Data we receive on our server

When the app calls our backend, we may receive:

  • Device ID: a random UUID generated on first launch (not your Apple ID).
  • IP address: provided by your network.
  • Approximate location (latitude/longitude): used to serve nearby aircraft data.
  • Feedback/contact info you send: whatever you type (and your email if you include it).

What we don't collect

  • We don't collect your name unless you send it to us in feedback.
  • We don't collect payment card details (subscriptions are handled by Apple).
  • We don't intentionally collect sensitive info (health, biometrics, etc.).
  • We don't sell your data.

How we use data

We use the data described above to:

  • Provide the core functionality (show aircraft overhead).
  • Enforce free-tier limits and prevent abuse.
  • Maintain, debug, and secure the service.
  • Respond to your messages/support requests.

Location storage

We do not persist your location history on our servers. Location may be processed in real time to answer requests, and may appear temporarily in logs for debugging/security, but we don't build a location history about you.

iCloud / CloudKit

Your spotting stats sync using Apple iCloud CloudKit, which is controlled by Apple and your Apple ID. We generally cannot access your private iCloud data unless you share it with us (for example, by sending screenshots or support info). Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's policies.

Service providers

We use third-party providers to run the app:

  • Cloudflare (networking/security/backend hosting). Cloudflare may process IP address and request metadata as part of providing the service.

We only share data with providers as needed to operate and secure the service.

Data retention

  • Server data (device ID, IP, request info): retained only as long as needed for security, troubleshooting, and service operation, then deleted or anonymized when no longer necessary.
  • Feedback messages: retained to respond and improve the app.
  • iCloud stats: retained in your iCloud until you delete them (for example by deleting the app and/or iCloud data, depending on your Apple settings).

Your choices

  • You can deny camera or location access, but the app may not function.
  • You can stop server communication by uninstalling the app.
  • You can manage iCloud sync and data via your device's iCloud settings.

Children

Overhead is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect data, but no system can be 100% secure.

Changes

If we update this Privacy Policy, we'll revise the effective date and post the updated version.
